Emergency Take Action Plan

ALICE

School City of Hobart implements the ALICE safety training program, a federally endorsed approach that equips teachers and students to respond appropriately based on their surroundings during an emergency. All SCOH staff members receive training in ALICE protocols.
At the elementary level, ALICE training is tailored to young learners using age-appropriate, reassuring language to help them understand how to stay safe in potentially dangerous situations.
For additional information about ALICE, including helpful resources for discussing safety with your child at home, please visit the official ALICE website.

Emergency Drills
Indiana Code requires each school to conduct monthly fire drills, one severe weather drill per semester, and one man-made occurrence drill per semester.
Certified Safety Specialists
The State of Indiana requires each school corporation in the state to have at least one certified school safety specialist. School City of Hobart has many certified specialists on staff. To become certified, a safety specialist must complete a rigorous five-day basic training conducted by national school safety experts in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Education. To maintain certification, each specialist must attend two days of training each school year. Trainings is based on national best practices in school safety and security.
