NON-RESIDENT ENROLLMENT FOR FALL 2025

Deadline to submit a completed Application Packet: June 27, 2025

The Corporation will not consider an application to be submitted if it is incomplete or is not accompanied by all of the required documents.

Thank you for selecting School City of Hobart (SCOH) as the place to send your child for their education. We encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities available to you and your child. Involved parents are critical in creating outstanding schools. Please read through the information below regarding non-resident enrollment. At the bottom of the page is a link to the School City of Hobart Application for Transfer of Non-Resident Students.

Application Packets submitted after June 27, 2025 will be considered when an opening is identified.

OPENINGS

SCOH prioritizes the following non-resident enrollment requests before others are considered:

  • Students who have a parent who is employed by SCOH and eligible under I.C. 20-26-11-6.5.
  • Students who were accepted for enrollment and attended an SCOH school during the prior academic year; 
  • Students who have a sibling or stepsibling who was accepted for enrollment and attended an SCOH school during the prior academic year and live in the same household.

INFORMATION

  • A parent/guardian requesting enrollment of a student who resides outside of the SCOH boundaries must complete an Application for Transfer of Non-Resident Students and provide all requested documents.
  • The Application for Transfer of Non-Resident Students and requested documents is to submit for approval to the School City of Hobart.
  • An Application for Transfer of Non-Resident Students and requested documents must be provided for each child in the family requesting enrollment.
  • Parents will be notified prior to the first day of school by certified mail or email as to whether or not the student has been accepted for enrollment. You should not withdraw your child from his or her current school until you have been notified that your application has been approved.
  • Upon approval of the enrollment request, the parent or guardian MUST register the student(s) using Skyward.
  • If approved, the parent, guardian, custodian, or student agrees to provide his/her own transportation to and from school.
  • Students will not be accepted for athletic purposes.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

All of the following documentation must be submitted:

  1. Application Packet, which includes:
    • Application for Transfer of Non-Resident Student
    • Student/Parent Reason for Transfer Request
    • Release of Student Information Form
  2. Current Grades
  3. Transcript from home school or documentation from pre-school
  4. Complete attendance history for the last 12 months
  5. Complete discipline history for the last 12 months
  6. IREAD, ILEARN, PSAT, SAT records
  7. Letter from home school or pre-school indicating that the student has not had any suspensions or expulsions within the previous 12 months, that they are not applying to avoid a suspension or expulsion, that their attendance has not been an issue, and that the transferring school district is aware of the student’s request to transfer.
  8. Documentation of:  special education services including speech (IEP), 504, MTSS/RTI intervention plan, ILP, and/or behavioral plan (if applicable)

The Corporation will not consider an application to be submitted if it is incomplete or is not accompanied by all of the required documents.


ENROLLMENT REQUEST DENIALS

The Superintendent shall deny a transfer request based on one or more of the following criteria:

  • The student has had ten (10) or more days of suspension or expulsion over the last 12 months.
  • The student has had twelve (12) or more days of unexcused absences in the last 12 months.
  • The student has been suspended for causing physical injury, drug or alcohol violations, or weapons. 
  • The student has had a history of unexcused absences, and the Board believes that, based upon the location of the student's residence, attendance would be a problem for the student if the student is enrolled in SCOH.
  • The student will cause SCOH to exceed the desired student-to-teacher ratio in the existing classrooms.
  • No transfer student will be accepted if in the judgment of the Superintendent the enrollment would create and undue hardship for the district.

Capacity at each grade level that exceeds the desired student-to-teacher ratio in each of the existing classrooms is grounds for denial:

  • Kindergarten - 27:1 in 10 classrooms
  • Grade 1 - 28:1 in 11 classrooms
  • Grade 2 - 28:1 in 11 classrooms
  • Grade 3 - 29: 1 in 10 classrooms
  • Grade 4 - 30:1 in 11 classrooms
  • Grade 5 - 30:1 in 10 classrooms
  • Grade 7 - 32:1
  • Grade 8 - 32:1
  • Grade 9 - 32:1
