IN State Standards Curriculum & Assessments

Curriculum K–12

School City of Hobart curriculum is aligned with the current Indiana Academic Standards and applicable Indiana Course Titles and Descriptions. District curriculum planning identifies the guaranteed standards, pacing, major learning outcomes, common evidence and assessment expectations, and instructional resources for each grade level or course. Teachers retain professional judgment in selecting texts, examples, tasks, scaffolds, enrichment opportunities, and instructional strategies that help students meet those expectations.

Dual-credit courses offered through Hobart University, School City of Hobart’s Early College program, follow the academic standards, approved syllabi, and course requirements of the partnering postsecondary institution. For these dual-credit courses, the syllabus reflects applicable postsecondary course expectations and is available to enrolled students and families through Canvas. Canvas is the district’s primary learning management system for communicating current course materials, learning modules, assignments, assessments, rubrics, announcements, course outlines, and, when applicable, Hobart University dual-credit syllabi. Parents and guardians are encouraged to become Canvas Parent Observers so they can follow their student’s coursework and access materials shared by teachers.

K–8 Literacy and IREAD

School City of Hobart provides reading instruction that includes a core reading program aligned with the science of reading for students in kindergarten through grade 8. Applicable schools complete annual reading plans, use assessment and progress-monitoring data to provide intervention, and follow current Indiana requirements for IREAD participation, remediation, parent communication, summer support, retention, and Good Cause Exemptions.

Students begin IREAD in grade 2 and continue to participate until they pass or are promoted to grade 7. Students who do not pass receive reading remediation and intervention.
