eLearning Day Information

  • The School City of Hobart may use the IDOE eLearning Day Program in the event of inclement weather, on a make-up day for inclement weather, or on a planned day for other opportunities.  Through the use of digital tools and/or the Internet, students will receive quality, curriculum-based instruction away from the classroom.  The SCOH is equipped and approved to utilize these days so our students don't miss out on learning when we are forced to close our buildings.  The following information will provide you with details on eLearning days.

How do students know what to do?

Teachers will provide information on how to complete work and will be available for direct communication through their school email addresses on eLearning days.

Students in grades 1-12 have Chromebooks and should use them to complete work where needed, or alternate technology at home.  Students in Kindergarten will also be provided with digital learning opportunities, or in some cases may be provided with hard copy packets if there is no access at home.

If a student has any questions, he/she will be able to email teachers for answers.  Should a response not occur, please contact the principal for assistance through email.  Principals and other administrators will also be available for questions.  For email address information, please see our Staff Directory (www.hobart.k12.in.us/staff).

Students will be able to use the SCOH website (www.hobart.k12.in.us) to utilize CoolTools for assignments as well as Canvas, Google Apps and other applications and sites as determined by the student's teacher(s).

What if I have technology issues?

Technology staff will be available to help with technology issues.  Students can submit technology questions/concerns through the Student Technology Helpdesk (helpdesk.hobart.k12.in.us) or join eLearning Day Canvas course for help.  The helpdesk and Canvas help will be available between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on eLearning Days.  Students can login to the Student Technology Helpdesk with their regular Hobart logins and passwords.

What if I don't have Internet access at home?

Students in grades 1-12 with Chromebooks can complete assignments in "offline mode," which will be explained to them so that they can accomplish work.  If you have additional questions through this process, the SCOH asks that you please contact your child's teacher(s) so that they can make alternative arrangements.

Also check out Internet Essentials from Comcast, an affordable Internet for eligible families.

    Are students required to participate?

Yes, students are required to participate in eLearning days scheduled by SCOH and are to provide evidence of work completed to be considered "in attendance" on that day.  Failure to do so would result in an unexcused absence for that day.  The teacher will set the deadline for the assignments to be completed.

    Are there additional resources?

Yes, take a look at some of the resources below.  We will continue to add as we collect additional items.
